This is how all DLC packs should be – large!

Assetto Corsa’s Dream Pack 1 DLC has officially launched, the DLC pack was introduced in the racing sim’s 1.1 version update.

The Dream Pack 1 DLC contains ten cars and the famous Nurburgring track and is available on Steam for £10.99, not bad value at all in my opinion.

The legendary Nürburgring track will come in three different configurations:

Nordschleife – this is your typical version of the Nurburgring layout found in the likes of Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport and is often used by the car manufacturers for tests and going for lap records.

Endurance – This version is the official 24Hours configuration that is held every year. It includes the Nordschleife (north loop) as well as part of the NürburgringGP circuit.

Touristenfahrten – This is the most known layout and is what you would experience if you travelled to the faous Nurbugring circuit for a track day. So expect to start the lap driving through the park to enter the circuit towards the latter portion of the famous long uphill straight of  döttinger höhe.

I love AC and this extension, but I must say that I have reservations regarding the Sauber C9 – It is supposed to be tricky to drive, but it was as well EXTREMELY fast, with so much downforce that they had to cancel a Le Mans race due to the tyres litteraly bursting under the extreme downforce weight at high speeds…

In AC, it feels like one of those ‘big engine sloppy frame’ cars. And the McLaren F1 GT1 is practically as fast as the C9 around in the game, even at Spa which seems quite questionable. I still remember those days and the best group C had performances closer to a formula 1 than to a GT…..

A simple comparison: The C9 (faster, but not hugely faster) was able to lap Spa in 2:05. Today’s McLaren P1 (900hp, 4wd, probably slick tyres) makes it in 2:39! Yes one chicane changed since then, but it didn’t add all that much. A Radical SR8, while not being an extremem machine, is a proper modern prototype, and its record at Spa is 2:16! Just imagine how crazy fast the Sauber was…. The AC version does not seem all that fast around a track.

But maybe I am wrong and I am a complete sucker with the C9 🙂

  • The Sauber C9 is certainly an incredible piece of engineering, some interesting points you have made here, thanks for posting.
